If you import a car south, remember it needs an NCT within 30 days if it is of testable age, and you can check the vehicle's MOT history online before you buy. We are happy to take a look underneath and tell you whether any rust is surface or structural before it becomes an expensive surprise.
MOT or NCT, the metalwork standard is the same
Whether a car is heading for an MOT in the North or an NCT in the South, structural corrosion is treated seriously and filler over rot is not acceptable. The fix is the same on both sides of the border: cut out the rotten steel and weld in new metal of the same gauge. That is exactly how we work, and a proper repair will stand up to either test.

Does an imported car need an NCT, and will rust fail it?
A car imported into the Republic needs an NCT within 30 days if it is of testable age. Structural corrosion in the wrong place is an NCT fail, and serious cases are graded as Dangerous. We can sort any structural rust before you put it in for the test.
