Welding & Rust Repair in Newry

Minutes from Newry across the border in Omeath. Welding, rust repair and pre-purchase rust checks for cross-border drivers and cars imported from the North.

Omeath sits right on the border, and Newry is only about ten to fifteen minutes away along the coast. That makes us one of the closest welding and rust-repair specialists to Newry on either side of the line. We work on cars, vans, 4x4s and trailers from across the border area, including a lot of cross-border drivers and imported vehicles.

Structural welding is what we do every day: chassis rails, sills, floor pans and underbody rust, all repaired in new steel rather than filled. If you are running a car between Newry and Dundalk, or you have just bought one from the North, we can check the underside and tell you straight what is there.

Buying a car from the North? Check the rust first

Cars sold in Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK have typically seen heavier road salt than cars kept in the Republic, and rust on the underside is one of the most common hidden problems. Before you hand over money, it is worth checking the sills, floor pan, wheel arches, subframe mounts and chassis rails.

If you import a car south, remember it needs an NCT within 30 days if it is of testable age, and you can check the vehicle's MOT history online before you buy. We are happy to take a look underneath and tell you whether any rust is surface or structural before it becomes an expensive surprise.

MOT or NCT, the metalwork standard is the same

Whether a car is heading for an MOT in the North or an NCT in the South, structural corrosion is treated seriously and filler over rot is not acceptable. The fix is the same on both sides of the border: cut out the rotten steel and weld in new metal of the same gauge. That is exactly how we work, and a proper repair will stand up to either test.

Handy for the whole border area

Being on the R173 right at the border, we are an easy run from Newry, Warrenpoint and the surrounding area as well as from Dundalk and the Cooley peninsula. Send photos of the underside on WhatsApp for a quick assessment, or drive over for a proper look. We will give you a straight price with no surprises.

Newry Welding & Rust Repair: Common Questions

How far is the workshop from Newry?

We are in Ardaghy, Omeath, about ten to fifteen minutes from Newry along the coast road. We are one of the nearest welding and rust-repair specialists to Newry on the southern side of the border.

I am buying a car in the North. Can you check it for rust before I commit?

Yes. Cars from Northern Ireland and the UK often carry more underbody rust because of heavier road salting. Bring it over or send clear photos of the underside and we will tell you honestly what is surface rust and what is structural rot that needs welding.

Does an imported car need an NCT, and will rust fail it?

A car imported into the Republic needs an NCT within 30 days if it is of testable age. Structural corrosion in the wrong place is an NCT fail, and serious cases are graded as Dangerous. We can sort any structural rust before you put it in for the test.

Do you take payment in sterling or euro?

Talk to us when you get a quote and we will sort out what works. The important thing first is to get the car looked at so you know exactly what the job involves.
