Severe rust damage on a vehicle floor pan requiring repair

Rust & Rot Repair

From surface corrosion to serious structural rot. We cut out the bad metal and weld in new — properly.

Irish Cars Rust Faster

Ireland's climate is one of the worst in Europe for vehicle corrosion. Constant damp, coastal salt air, and road salt in winter create the perfect conditions for rust to take hold. Add in potholes that chip underbody coatings, and it's no surprise that rot is one of the biggest problems facing Irish vehicle owners.

If you're in Co. Louth — particularly the coastal areas around Omeath, Carlingford, and the Cooley Peninsula — your vehicle is getting hit from all sides.

What We Repair

  • Structural rust and corrosion repair
  • Floor pan rot — partial and full section replacement
  • Sill rust and structural corrosion
  • Wheel arch rot and inner wing repair
  • Bulkhead and firewall corrosion
  • Boot floor and spare wheel well rust
  • Spring hanger and mounting point corrosion
  • Pre-NCT rust repair and preparation

Surface Rust vs. Structural Rot

Not all rust is the same. Surface rust — the kind that sits on top of the metal — can often be treated and prevented from spreading. Structural rot is different. That's when the corrosion has eaten through load-bearing metal, weakening the vehicle's frame.

The difference matters because structural rot can't be treated with rust converter or spray-on products. It needs to be cut out and replaced with new steel, properly welded in. That's what we specialise in.

NCT and Rust

Rust is one of the biggest reasons Irish cars fail the NCT. The structural integrity check specifically looks for corrosion that has weakened the vehicle's load-bearing components — chassis rails, sills, floor pans, mounting points, and subframes.

If you've got an NCT coming up and you know there's rust underneath, it's worth getting it sorted before test day. We handle pre-NCT rust repairs every week and know exactly what the testers look for.

Can You Stop Rust Spreading?

If you've caught it early — surface rust only, no structural damage — then yes, rust treatment can slow it down. But once the metal has perforated or lost structural integrity, treatment alone won't save it. The section needs replacing.

We'll always give you a straight answer about whether your vehicle needs welding or just treatment. No point doing expensive structural work if it's not needed — and no point treating rust that's already gone too far.
